Mary Greig
It was with great sadness we announced the death of Mary Greig on Monday 21st December 2009, at 88 years of age.
Mary dedicated many years to golf in the south, she was secretary of the Dumfriesshire & Galloway Lady Golfer's Association from 1970 to 2004, Secretary Treasurer of Dumfriesshire Ladies from 1972 to 2003, 31 years of dedication. Mary aslo did a stint as secretary of County Golf with the SLGA and was a past handicap advisor for the south. She was instumental in starting the Mary McCallay Trophy a 36 hole scratch tournament held at Dumfries & Galloway Golf Club, Mary ran this competition for many years, this brought the best golfers in Scotland and the North of England to Dumfries. Mary along with Dorothy Hill, Pearl MacLennan and Bud Gordon and possibly a few others contacted the SLGA to get the South involved in County Golf, because of their efforts the South Division was formed in 1972 and included the Borders, Galloway & Dumfriesshire, this has given many of our girl's and Ladies the chance to play against top Scottish Internationlists and top Scottish Golfers, because of this quite a few of our Girl's have been on SLGA training squads. We will always be indebted to Mary for her dedication to County Golf and especially to Dumfriesshire Ladies.
